I would assume that a "puppet" fin would need someone inside the rock controling it. Which means another person to pay. I would assume it's just cheaper to have one less person, but it could also be that there were mechanical issues with it, or they just didn't like the way it looked (but that doesn't sound like it was the case). Either way, I think it's kind of impressive to see her in the costume fin and then appear in the dress so quickly, and it definately leaves a "How'd they do that?" moment, since you know it's not that easy to get out of a fin that's as tight as they look...

It was lightning fast. One year I took a video camera with infra red sensing and it was so neat to watch the puppeteers during the blacklight segments. There was a whole dance routine going on behind the lights that no one ever gets to see. Amazing!
