If you watch any movie made by any major Hollywood studio from the very end of the 60's,to sometime in the mid-to-late 80's,you'll see that, during this period, almost all the studio logos were simplified---the long-range effects of TV,making movies less "classy",perhaps?---the best example being Warner Brothers, their classic "WB" shield transformed into a highly stylized W,set in a rounded-corner square.Columbia's "lady with a torch" became an abstract sunburst,Paramount's mountain ringed with stars became a simpler image.Only Universal's earth-with-logo and Fox's monolithic rendition of its name surrounded by spotlights remained the same---only in the last decade-and-a-half,when movies have gained new popularity, have these two studio logos been greatly enhanced visually, made more three-dimensional in appearance. The aforementioned Warners,Columbia and Paramount have all since returned to their classic logos, similarly enhanced.
Amazingly, this hasn't happened to Disney---their movies, both animated and live-action,are still opening with the simple Cinderella Castle graphic.I'm aware that, even when the studio made its comeback in the late 80's,it still wasn't considered as being in the same league as the major studios, but still---how much effort, for a movie company, can there be in building, then filming,an elaborate minituare of a European castle in a forested mountain range?

But an elaborate European castle in a forested mountain range isn't the recognized symbol of the WDC, Sleeping Beauty (or Cinderella) Castle is.

Besides, they wouldn't need to go to the trouble of making a miniature or CGI set, they could just do what they did for years and years on television: use the actual Sleeping Beauty Castle at DL.

Maybe because it has become too cliche to do the fully-rendered flyover CGI effect over a logo?

    >>almost all the studio logos were simplified---the long-range effects of TV,making movies less "classy",perhaps?<<

The 1960's & 70's "look" in advertising was for more slick, minimalistic logos. It wasn't just movie studios, it was every product that went for the "less is more" approach.

It's fun to look at movie studios logosw over the years. It's pretty easy to determine what era they were created in because they tend to reflect the tastes of the day.

And maybe it makes a good argument for not following the pack and doing a flashy CGI logo -- too trendy? I dunno. But then again, I miss the airplane buzzing around the globe in the old Universal logo. : )

    Great topic, by the way!

As for WDP's logo, I have no problem with the current Sleeping Beauty Castle logo. Sure, the Pixar version is cool too, but I associate that one with the Disney/Pixar films rather than just Disney films.
