Turns out when they went to pick up the rental car Jim discovered his license had expired in January. He tried to get that rectified but was unable to get all the paper work needed in time. Anyway, my sister rented the car and would have to do all the driving. We'll we finally got under way and luckily the rest if the evening went fine. We made good time and got to our stop in St George safe and sound. On Saturday we got a good start and made it to Burbank in time to shower and rest before the pre wedding pizza party for out of town guests. I should mention at this point that it was a same-sex wedding. It was Malia's best friend Norman's wedding. I had never met his partner Patrick before but loved him immediately. We all had a great time. A fun side note. The pizza came from the same place Ellen ordered from for the Oscars. But toward the end of the party my eyes started itching. By the time we were heading back to the hotel it was really bad. I've never had any environmental allergies, so I have no idea what caused it. Norman's two cats really liked me but I've had cats my whole life and currently have two cats of my own so it can't have been that. Luckily I took a Benadryl and it had cleared up by the morning. On Sunday, the wedding festivities started at two. We had a lazy went to Amoeba Records in LA. Jim loves that place and had to be dragged away when it was time to get ready. We arrived just after two and enjoyed the hour of drinks and mingling. The venue was lovely. It was outside in a park and the decor consisted mainly of pinwheels in the wedding colors. We snagged good seats about 20 minutes before the ceremony at three. Soon after everything went wrong. I was holding all the seats while everyone else was doing other things. Five minutes before the ceremony there was an announcement that there would be a delay. Shortly after Jim ran over and told me I was needed, there was a question about my Mother's medications. I went where he indicated and discovered my Mother had fallen. She had hit her head and there was a lot of blood. Malia and Jim stayed for the ceremony while I went with my Mother in the ambulance. As soon as the ceremony was over Malia and Jim followed. We initially thought she had had a seizure. She had had a few before. Luckily that was not the case. She had a CT scan that checked out OK. She had to have five staples in the cut in the back of her head. Well, everyone was shaken up. Especially Jim. He likes my Mom a lot and his own mother died only three weeks ago. It was decided he wouldn't have a good time at DL and no one wanted my Mom to do any of the sightseeing we had planned for Monday. My mother had decided a few weeks ago that she didn't want to go as she would slow us down. She was scheduled to fly home, she lives in an other state, on Tuesday. So, on Monday, we went ahead and drove down to Anaheim. We all went to lunch at Earl of Sandwich. Then I went to the parks by myself while everyone else went back to the motel. I was going to do this all in one but I think I'll talk about my time in the parks in a separate post. FYI, by all reports, once the drama was over the wedding was lovely. I've seen some of the pictures on Facebook. And they have a story to tell.

Since licenses are good for quite a while in NY, I had forgotten it was up for renewal that year (by my birthday, which is how NY does it.) Sure enough, a couple of weeks after my birthday I fly somewhere and I'm at the rental car counter and... they won't rent me a car. What a mess that was, and that was just the beginning of what turned out to be a Murphy's Law Trip From Hell, but that would take all day to tell you about. Suffice it to say that sometimes stuff happens. Licenses expire, etc. It really freaked me out because I'm normally on top of stuff like that and I REALLY needed that car for that trip...
