Better than average spy thriller/murder mystery. Last week, I spent a day at an American Booksellers Association meeting and came away with bags of free books, many of them signed by the authors. I think the one I'm going to read first is "The Revenge of the Shadow King" by Derek Benz & J.S. Lewis. It's an advance copy of the first book in a new series that is being marketed as "the next Harry Potter" (the latest of many such--color me skeptical).

It's just different enough to look really wrong next to the others on the shelf. I don't know what the publisher was thinking.

Unfortunately, all but The Dark Tower are on back-order, so I'm going to have to wait until I start from the beginning and work through the series. I'm going to start rereading an old favorite tonight: The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I'm also rereading Pandora by Anne Rice. Out of all of the Vampire Chronicles books I've read, I think it's the best. Pandora is a fabulous, strong, and well-written character, and her story is addictive.
