That rock formation should have taken the shape of the smaller, less aggressive, ubiquitous California black bear(which comes in different shades and color patterns besides all black) who makes his home in the foothills and Sierra Nevada mountains.

Originally Posted By barboy ///the grizzly is our state animal and appears on our state flag.../// Yes, I know the Grizzly is on the flag. But DCA should have chosen the real Californian bear, the black bear. When Cali became a state in 1850 no problem because like I said wild Grizzlies were here ---- but DCA became a park in 2001, 100 years after the demise of Grizzly in the state.

Like it or not, California is symbolized by the Grizzly Bear, so Grizzly Peak is perfectly appropriate. Interestingly enough, the big golden disk in the entry is called (with great, great imaginative flair) the Sun Icon. But it never caught on as an official icon for the park, even among Disney's designers and publicists.

Thanksfully the Grizzly Peak, which is a very well designed Disney park structure, caught on as the icon of DCA.
