Tokyo is bidding to host the 2016 summer Olympics with Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid also in the running. The International Olympic Committee will elect the winning candidate during its session on Oct. 2 in the Danish capital. "It could be that the 2016 Games are the last Olympics in the history of mankind," Ishihara told reporters at a Tokyo 2016 press event ahead of the vote.<< WTF??? Everything I have read says that Global Warming (if it is true) will take centuries to raise the water level and make significant temperature difference. I think they are selling too much Kool Aid in Japan lately....

While we should be okay in 2016, some low-lying areas could be in trouble before the end of THIS century if trends continue. And about a billion people on our planet depend on glaciers for their drinking water - glaciers that are shrinking and in some cases disappearing. It could be that the liquid that causes the most displacement and war in our century will be not oil, but water.

He's a great filmmaker, and this one hasn't disappointed yet. Anyway, in an earlier episode this week, photos of Glacier National Park during the early 1900's show the mountain slopes mostly blanketed in white. The glaciers were vast and deep and beautiful. More white from the glaciers were visible in these century-old photos than the darkness of exposed mountaintops. Glacier National Park celebrates its centennial next year. But the glaciers are almost all gone. There's mostly mountaintop exposure now than before it was added to the national park system, a complete reversal in the glacier-to-mountaintop ratio. "Centuries to raise the water level"? Really? At the rate the glaciers and polar ice caps are currently melting? The scientists who actually study and record these meltings decade after decade wholeheartedly and emphatically disagree. Watch the Ken Burns documentary, DB. Look at those photos of Glacier National. Then take a look at photos of the same park during the past ten years. The evidence for rapid global warming will be right in front of your own eyes.

They are salivating over the time and money saved to transport goods from Europe to Asia. There is a group that thinks that climate change isn't a bad thing, and I could see someone using this as an example as how global warming is good for us, because it will allow goods to be moved cheaper and faster and for companies involved in that to become more profitable. But then here we have DB still qualifying it by "if it is even happening."

Actually, he's quite the right-wing posterboy, even down to blaming everything on illegal immigrants. If there was a Fox News in Japan, he would undoubtedly be one of their most favored politicians.
