Movies-Christmas Vacation, Holiday Inn, Die Hard and Die Hard 2. Of the versions of a Christmas Carol I love Scrooged and 1951 Alastair Sim version. Of course being a Disney Fan Mickey's Christmas Carol holds a special place in my heart.

Btw does anyone remember the animated version of A Christmas Carol that James Mason narrated? That frightened me as a kid.

I am really fond of "Pieces of April" as a Thanksgiving movie. Before she became Mrs. Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes starred in this little gem of a movie about a black sheep daughter who is having her estranged family over for Thanksgiving, in what is probably going to be the last one for her cancer-stricken mother. Excellent, excellent movie. I've made it a point to watch it every year around Thanksgiving ever since I saw it upon its original release.

For a little Disney trivia, "Mary Poppins" fans will recognize the lady playing Nelly Thursday. ;-)

"Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944)

    And for a TV special...

"Here Comes Peter Cottontail" (1971) featuring the voice talents of Paul Frees, Vincent Price, Danny Kaye, and Casey Kasem. Yes, I know it was an Easter special, but Peter gets to tour most of the holidays.

If we're talking Christmas, I'm a sucker for:

    "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947)
    "The Lemon Drop Kid" (1951)
    "A Christmas Story" (1985)
    "The Polar Express" (2004)

And then there are the various versions of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol"...

    "Scrooge" (1951) starring Alistair Sim
    "Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol" (1962)
"Scrooge" (1970) starring Albert Finney (I saw this at the Radio City Music Hall when it premiered)
    "Rich Little's Christmas Carol" (1978)
    "Blackadder's Christmas Carol" (1988)
    "The Muppet Christmas Carol" (1992)

For movies set during Christmastime, but are not considered Christmas movies:

    "Stalag 17" (1953)
    "Donovan's Reef" (1963)
    "Brazil" (1985)

The Mr. Magoo special was a favorite of mine as a child--I wonder if it'd still hold up for me? Gotta find it. You can't beat the appearance by Gerald McBoing Boing as Tiny Tim!

And Scrooged...I need to Netflix that one, share it with my kid, who I think may just like it!
