But from what I've heard WDW's should reopen during some of the busy times like Easter & Spring Break... Of course when it does reopen during those times the new animatronics will be obscured from view or may not even be in place yet... Who knows thoughs, some of the new effects cold be in place then though... Here is some more official info--- *WARNING* Spoilers-so don't read any further if you don't wanna know yet.

-When it reopens, the attraction will feature two of Hollywood's most infamous scalawags, Captain Jack Sparrow and his cursed nemesis, Captain Barbossa. The duo will add an exciting new twist to the attraction's original storyline as they race to be the first to claim a cache of plundered treasure.

"Successfully adding the popular characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean films with the mythology of our classic attraction is an example of Disney synergy and Walt Disney Imagineering at its finest," say Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "These additions will result in an exciting new chapter for the attraction and an unforgettable experience for our guests, giving them another reason to come and be a part of our continuing 50th anniversary celebration."

Woven into some of the attraction's most memorable scenes, the rival swashbucklers will be seen interacting with some of the more familiar Audio-Animatronics® buccaneers found inside the ride-through adventure. Also making a guest appearance is the ghostly Davy Jones from the second movie in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. But new characters are only the beginning. New special effects will also be added.

"The creative legacy of Pirates of the Caribbean has come full circle with the attraction initially inspiring our highly successful film franchise and now the films inspiring exciting additions to the attraction itself," says Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. "The attraction captures the same spirit, swashbuckling humor and action that moviegoers loved in the first Pirates of the Caribbean, which will continue with the highly anticipated new tales this summer and beyond."

Created under the direct creative supervision of Walt Disney himself, Pirates of the Caribbean premiered in 1967 at Disneyland and in 1973 at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The attraction's jaunty theme song, "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)," sets the show's light tone with its tongue-in-cheek depiction of high-seas lawlessness.

I wonder if that means we'll get the cool effect that everyone always raves about in the Paris version...

    Talk about ruining the magic.

I think it ould be ok to add Jack Sparrow and Barbossa somewhere, but without changing too much...they better not mess with the jail scene!

If they have to have Jack Sparrow anywhere there sould be a Johnny Depp lookalike running around Adventureland for kids to meet (and their moms to drool over, lol jk)

Once my 4 yr old sister gets past the skeleton pirate int he beginning, she loves the ride, but if it was full of ghostly figures, she would hate it.

O well... Not every thing should be for little kids. And anther thing, my son is 4 years old loves them. So I guess what I am trying to say is you can not please them all and there is A lot of other things for the litte one to do in MK or any other park.

My point was that kids who may have liked the ride before go on it and then get freaked out by a ride they once knew? Not saying this is going to happen at all but I was just asking if more skeletons were going to be placed or not.

Disney is trying to make this happen actually... Well they're looking at current talent for the role...

I have faith (fingers crossed) that Disney won't remove or ruin any scenes that make the ride memorable (like the jail scene for example). I think it will be more about enhancements than really changing the feel of the original ride.

While I agree in theory with this statement, the case can be made that in order to preserve the attraction for the long term, it may be a neccesary evil. Here is an an example:

When 20,000 Leagues closed for good, my son either called or wrote to Disney asking why. He was told that it was closed because younger people could not relate to it because they couldn't identify it with a movie. I'm not so sure I believe that, but if this POTC update means it doesn't go the way of 20K , it's worth it to me.

If he only knew the real truth then, and saw the playground he got in place of those subs he couldn't relate to....he could have gone off on them.

The circle of lies around that closing was almost as bad as the outcome.

for the record I am 100% confident Potc not going the way of 20K
