Where's the beef? Not on Disney buffets.

I don't think such a person would be an apologist just for SAYING they don't care about that option, but it goes beyond that doesn't it?

I, for one, loathe seafood. If any or all seafood were removed from all Disney menus I would not give it a second thought.

No more shrimp cocktails? Good riddance. No more coral reef restaurant? Who cares?

But, I know that many DO care. Just because *I* don't like it doesn't mean I wouldn't take notice if they cheaped out in THAT direction either (I don't live in a vacuum, after all...I have friends and family who enjoy that stuff).

In any case, I think there is cause for complaint with the Disney "excuse", which is essentially that they removed the prime rib because customers weren't happy with it.

    That doesn't smell right.

Personally, I'd be happier if they'd just go ahead and admit they are cutting back due to a recession. I think most would be okay with that. I think some (like me) would appreciate their cutting out the bull, and getting right to the point. It's not as if anyone could disagree, right?

Heck, they could even make a campaign of it in and of itself. "we're slightly altering our buffet menus to reflect the tough times, but we refuse to reduce our QUALITY" or something along those lines.

That line of bull (about taking out the prime rib because people were so darned unhappy about their generous portion lol) just smacks of idiocy on the face of it. It makes them look like fools, or else jerks, for saying such ridiculous things when everyone KNOWS what's really up.

In other words, I'd prefer it if the called a spade a spade and not given us a load of malarkey that is really impossible to swallow.

I believe that was largely the point Spirit was trying to make.

True, but to to that to a supposedly "premium" product is foolish at best. Eventually your customers realize that they are getting beer at champagne prices, and take their business elsewhere.

As many here have pointed out there are many Non-Disney food options within a short drive of WDW. Even if you have to take a cab the money you save on food will more than pay for it.

And Mr. X did a great job in post 42 of summing up where I stand and why.

I actually have seafood allergies and if Disney removed everything that swam from their buffets it would be fine with me , personally.

BUT ... I do realize there are people other than me in the world and they do enjoy shrimp and crab and lobster and fishies.

And I understand that removing said items would lower the quality TO ALL guests.

So whether anyone likes prime rib or doesn't is of no moment to the point I'm making.

Explaining away Disney management's bad behavior just helps perpetuate it.

Oh and again I don't generally like buffets because they promote unhealthy dining habits, so I'm saying this decision will barely affect me. But it doesn't make it a good one.

And Dave, as to your DLP issues, you can thank WDW retread execs Karl Holz and George Kalogridis for the buffeting there ... they simply brought one of their favorite dining consultants over from WDW (he was the one who first started dumbing down EPCOT menus in the late 90s) and put him on the payroll to dumb down dining there.

Please quit telling us "marketing research has found that" Marketing as a whole is the art of two letters I think it's umm B and S.

Now I don't really think many buffets exist for quality, I think average peanut, I mean Joe thinks that the point of a buffet is to get as much food as possible. That said I hope the food is decent. If a few of the choices (key word here is choices) isn't what I want then I'll skip it. If it's something new I'll try a small sampling on my first plate and not load up. Going back for more if I like it. If I feel I'm getting full I;ll just shovel the food into a purse or something (JK!) I won't get more food. But that's me. My guess is that if people changed their attitudes towards buffet the waste issue wouldn't be as much as an issue. But that involves putting faith into human nature.

Now stop loading crap down our throat as mentioned by a certain infamous poster here. Just say we're trying to keep from raising prices by substituting another alternative. Don't whitewash the issue.

Now where did I put my rose coloured glasses?

That's much easier to do at DLR than WDW. Which is what we do.

While its hardly gourmet pizza, its better than the stuff they sell at Red Rockets. And a lot cheaper.

They became known for making lower quality cars and eventually were surpassed by competitors as customers moved to what they saw as a better value. The Disney brand is percieved as a top value brand but, I worry that with continued cuts in quality over a long period of time that the brand will be tarnished and the percieved value will be lessened. A reputation is easy to get and difficult to repair. Just ask Ford, GM, and chrysler. If they had it to do over again would they maximize profits at the expense of quality?

Wait a minute, are you my child? Come clean which one of my 3 is posting on here without telling me?;)

We too have prime rib @ Christmas but I don't think any of my crew thinks it's overrated. Of course we're brainwashed Midwesterners that haven't met a cow we didn't like. After all even the toughest cut can be tasty if it's prepared correctly.

I wonder if those that don't mind would be as generous if their local butcher tried to sell them loin @ prime rib prices? There is absolutely no difference.

The issue is honestly not prime rib. If you booked a room @ PC and they charged you the same as POR with the explaination that "research showed that folks just didn't like the "bigger/better" rooms" I'm sure you wouldn't turn a blind eye, nor should you.

This debate could & most likely will go ad nauseum, the bottom line is as long as folks sit still for being treated like sheep they will continue to get "flocked". ;)
