    They don't vacuum?

    That's pathetic!

Towel animals or other little "cute" touches like that are great, but ONLY if they are the cherry on top of the sundae. The room should be spotless and THEN give a little something extra.

I agree, that's some whacked out priorities right there.

My guess is no one had a towel animal and lousy housekeeping - a slackard housekeeper isn't going to take that time either.

Therefore not an either / or -- but both or neither is my guess

Reportedly, Mousekeeping is now equipped with sweepers instead of vacuums. It's not possible for a housekeeper to properly vacuum a room if they don't even have a vacuum, no matter how hard a worker they are.

It's probably harder on the staff in terms of manual labor, but a sweeper can work better than a vacuum cleaner if its the right kind. Vacuum cleaners, while efficient and powerful to suck up a large volume of dirt, also stir up a lot of dirt and dust in the process. I'm get a little obsessive compulsive about cleaning sometimes, and there's some jobs where an old fashioned sweeper will accomplish the task better than the most powerful vacuum. It takes longer and requires a little more elbow grease, but that's just the way it goes. Sort of the same comparison between mopping a floor and getting down on your hands and knees to scrub it. In a hotel environment, where there's a large volume of sweeping to be done in a small amount of time, it's probably not very efficient to forego the vacuum cleaner and expect the staff to put in the extra elbow grease to make it work.

I've had it up to my eyeballs with idiotic arguments on laughingplace, and this one has to be one of if not THE most idiotic arguments anyone has ever made!

Do you just type stuff to make an argument? Seems so.

A freakin vacuum cleaner works just fine. Any extra "stirred up" stuff is easily vacuumed away on a quick second pass.

    Duh.

Why are you even trying to make such an argument?

SURE, a cleaning person with a few hours to spare and a sweeper MIGHT clean up even better...but WHO DOES THAT?

Probably the same people who get down on hands and knees to scrub a floor.

    What, exactly, is your point?

(I'll even give you the answer..."I have no point, I'm just talking for the sake of talking and I have nothing of value to offer"...there, I helped you out!)

    • Cleaning multiple Guest rooms including toilets, showers, sinks and tubs
    • Working with cleaning chemicals
    • Replenishing linens
    • Making beds, requiring repetitive bending and pulling
    • Pushing large carts
    • Dusting and vacuuming
    • Emptying trashcans

    • Heavy lifting, standing for extended periods

I would have to agree with vbdad... I have only run into substandard cleaning once during WDW visits. That was a time when the room had clearly been forgotten (towels all over, bed unmade, etc)... not a case of it having been cleaned inadequately.

At hotels I may not properly make a bed, but I at least attempt to cover the mess with the spread. I'm hoping your towels are at least contained to the bathroom :) Of course I'm sure ceiling fans and balcony railings make nice hanging spots for towels. I'm sure of it. :p

I'm all for choice. This coming from the person who keeps a dozen some odd varieties of vinegar in his pantry though :p

You know that Disney has made cutbacks when they'll switch to the basket and wax paper approach to dining.
