Where's the beef? Not on Disney buffets.

You know I don't have plans for Christmas .. yet. I was actually thinking of prime rib at a Vegas buffet that day ... maybe I should come visit!

    We have a winner!

Now ... why do you hate River Country?

I never went to the place, but the videos seem reasonably charming and nice...

Had you been there before it closed, Spirit? What were your thoughts?

It was also quite peaceful without all that concrete to bounce sound off of.

Great slides that dumped you into the lake (or the Disney sanitized portion of lake water) ... beautiful, huge pool too with slides that dropped you a good distance above the water, so as a kid it scared you good!

The rapids were great because they went through an area full of pine and cypress trees and you could get stuck in the current and extend your tubing experience, which I always did (although the last few years they installed some padding at the bottom of the trough to try and eliminate that).

Tasty fast food at Pop's Place (used to love their chicken sandwiches).

It didn't have the frenetic pace of every other water park I've ever been too.

Just a great vibe. I miss it a lot!

I wouldn't use the word 'hate' --- very few Disney offerings would get that from me(maybe DCA's 'Golden Screams', Disneyland's video game parlor near Space Mnt., Magic Kingdom's Stitch Escape and the old Wonders of life 'Body Wars'.... if I really systematically go through every Disney attraction around the globe I might come up with 2 or 3 more).

My one and only time at River Country was in Sept.'02 and my friend and I were bored out of our wits---we lasted about an hr. and 1/2 before we packed up and got back on the bus. We had been to Typhoon Lagoon maybe 2 days prior(which we found to be very super cool--easily the best water park anywhere with its state of the art attractions, unique features and awesome theme) and there was nothing at River Country for us. The very few slides there were short, not steep and didn't thrill in the slightest; the main swimming area was like swimming in a swamp(which if in 1973 it would have been very cool indeed); and the bars/rings/ropes and other floating 'sandbox equipment' in the 'ol swim'n hole' just didn't interest us.... maybe if we were 11 years old but we were young adults fresh from Typhoon!. My friend and I ended up just sitting in the clear clorine plaster pool for a short spell and then we headed for the bus.

Now, I'll be the first to say, again, that if I had been there in 1973 that place would have been the bomb!

I guess I just found the place useless/outdated.

thinking more along the terms of 45-50 and above liking the place. Sometimes a place to relax is not a horrible thing on vacation - especiallylonger visits. It's why I prefer OKW to BW.I like them both - and when I have extra energy I wouldgoto BW

By the way I do agree with you about the pool slides that dropped guests a good distance in the chlorine, plaster pool---I forgot about that cool feature.

Even being able to walk a nature trail through the cypress swamp that all of the Bay Lake area was before Disney was so special. You'd see all kind of birds, turtles, even a gator every few years.

It was passive in many ways ... but it also was active too.

I just feel so bad when I walk by its rotting corpse knowing all the fun times I had and how amazingly bad show it is for Disney to allow it to sit and decay in full (OK, semi) public view.

On the other hand, I'd love to go to the top of the pool slide and toss Disney execs into the green slime that has overtaken the pool one at a time ... hell, I'd sell tickets and we could give proceeds to Give Kids the World. :)

    No it can't.

That's why while I can see and would argue that TL and BB (and Aquatica ... and even Wet and Wild) have far more to offer ... RC will always be my favorite water park.
