The Jungle Cruise went down for refurbishment (with signs proclaiming there would be "Something Gnu" in the jungle) for general refreshing, to revise some of the existing scenes, and to add the piranha scene. During that time, there was some sort of construction equipment being used around Schweitzer Falls, and something happened (likely a combination of driver error and an aging 50-year-old structure) that led to the collapse of the waterfall structure. Luckily, it occurred at the beginning of a long refurbishment, so they were able to build a new structure before the ride was scheduled to reopen. The new design is actually quite similar to what the original structure looked like in the park's early days. Instead of a single wide sheet of water, it is comprised of several smaller streams (one or two of them are still fairly wide) across the face of the structure. There are additional rocks up along the top of the falls where the streams diverge. While I don't think there's as much water flowing through the new version (since there's not as much space covered by the falling water), it does create a more dynamic look. I can definitely relate to and understand how it seems like a little trickle the first couple times you see it, but the overall result is more detailed and realistic.
