We went on the swinging gondolas the first time we went to CA when the park first opened. It was the worst experience I've ever had on a ride (the only Disney attraction to ever make me sick). We have never gone back on the swinging ones, but our family always enjoys the non-swinging ones, plus you have a really great view at the top (the swinging ones don't go that high). As an added bonus, there is never a wait for them, you enter the non-swinging ones through the exit. Hope you have fun.

I think many of us refer to the stationary red gondolas as the "Sun Wheel" and the swinging gondolas as "The Sun Wheel of Death". I'm more of a Red Gondola person but iamsally always manages to get her DH, Tinkeroon and myself on the Sun Wheel of Death.

The moving ones? Not a chance will I go on them. They shrieks of hysteria and cries of deathly fear that emnated from them, and how it appeared you were going to just fly off the thing and die were not exactly something that indicated "fun."

I'm not even going to go back on the stationary side. It's simply unpleasant.

They are not quite as bad as some have said but for anyone who is afraid of heights I wouldn't try them. The Red cars however offer the best view in the resort. On a very clear day you can see all the way to Catalina Island to the West. Great view!

Yah, sure, they were kind of scary at that one point where you swing out past the edge of the wheel itself, but it's pretty clear that you're not going anywhere. Since you only go about halfway to the top of the wheel, you don't get that great of a view (not terrible, but not worth waiting 20 min for). It also wasn't enough of a thrill ride (for me at least, but apparently I'm alone in that category) to do that wait again unless I was with people who had never done it and really wanted too. For what it's worth, I was with one other person, and we were paired up with another couple, and it was just kind of awkward. I don't know if this made it less scary or not, but it was fairly memorable, all things considered.

We found it a great deal of fun, actually, to be placed with another couple. This last time it happened to be two Italian girls in their 20's, one of whom was scared to death and cursing in Italian, the other of whom wasn't scared and was taunting her (in English) with things like "What? This is it? This is all the swing? This is NOthing! Don't be such baby." Which just made the other one curse more in Italian.

Which made it a fun and memorable ride for us. :)
