These are questions I have heard many times working at the Magic Kingdom. I just wanted to let everyone know that just because the ride stops, it does not mean the ride is broken. If the ride was broken we really wouldn't leave you stranded on the ride with no information. (with that in mind, not everything always goes as planned either) Haunted Mansion for example has the ability to stop the ride system on a certain ride vehicle (doombuggy). If there are several guests waiting for this doombuggy, then the ride may stop for a few minutes every 10 minutes to unload and load in the new guest. Sometimes some people have difficulty on the moving walkway, or cram too many people in one doombuggy and the cast have to stop the ride for safety. Pirates of the Caribbean is very different from Haunted Mansion. The distribution of the weight in the boat determines if your going to float properly thru the channel of the ride. It is the job of the Cast to make sure of this but its also not the easiest thing to do. I hope everyone understands that in the case of a downtime at an attraction the Cast are doing everything they can to fix the situation as fast as possible. Even if it looks like most of them are standing around doing nothing but talking to guests, there are a lot of people "backstage" working to fix the magic. Down times suck! I know it. and if you have ever been stuck on Pirates for 45 mins you know what I mean. But if the cast can restart the ride problem free and have you off the attraction in its intended ride time, it could potentionally be saving you more time from being evacuated. That proceedure sometimes can take an additional hour once they begin it after you have been sitting already. Please dont stop asking why a ride has stopped or if a ride is still down. The Cast Members need that feed back to help them better themselves and make the sitations easier and smoother if and when it may happen again.

I ask because when I worked at Epcot, I thought it was 10 minutes. Yet when I visited in December there were several rides (including SSE, Mansion) that were not operating for longer than 10 minutes and we weren't evac'd nor was an announcement made to empty the queue. Add to that the Peoplemover ramp not working, the Land escalator not working, COP breaking down, SM being 101'd for several hours, and my last visit really left me with the impression that Disney isn't doing proper upkeep on the attractions. Big surprise!

I'm sure they will fix him sometime though, maybe manana.
