It has been a long time since I have seen any Peter Pan movies. I would like for someone to please kindly explain Mr. Hook's issue with being called "Codfish" I am just curious of this matter. Thanks! Love,Ariel

If fresh fish was not available, the crew would be forced to rely on the increasingly unpleasant salted codfish for meals. So calling Hook a codfish could be saying he's smelly, dried out, and unpleasant. Codfish as an insult goes back a long way. In middle English the word "cod" also meant bag or sack. By innuendo, it was then applied to a specific part of the male anatomy (hence "codpiece" for the prominent bulge affixed to the front of men's trousers). Calling Hook a codfish could therefore be a euphemism for something I can't really say here!

Michael's gape-mouthed reaction led Mary to observe that he looked like a cod fish.

Or maybe she said it just for the halibut... There's also a Mr. Codfish in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" when Angela Lansbury & Co. end up on the Island of Namboombu (sp?)
