why closed during parades

    Both the entrance and the two exits dump right into the crowded walkways that run behind the parade viewing areas. I could see how it would be impossible to keep operating during the parade while simultaneously trying to have people enter and exit the operating attraction.

    It is sometimes very hard to hear the guide on the Storybookland Canal Boats anyway. I can't imagine some of those quiet CM's talking over the parade music.

    perhaps the only good thing about about having only one parade is storybook is open more often. back in the day when they had two sets of parades a day time and a nighttime storybook was hardly ever open.
    storybook is open during fireworks. the boats just stop during the show. i have never been on it, but supposley it is kind of neat to see the show from storybook.

    i am assuming they started closing the attraction when they started having big parades like the Main Street Electrical parade. i could be wrong, but before the electrial parade, parades weren't as a big of deal as they are now.

    only one type of parade. up until 99 they used to have a daytime parade and a separte night time parade.
    for example in 97 they had the Hercules parade performing twice a day during the daylight hours and then Light Magic performing twice during the night. pod still performs twice a day on weekends and busy periods. only once on weekdays.

    When I was there just after Christmas, they used the Storybookland dock to help with the traffic flow just after the parade had passed (so they were still closed and everything was still crazy). I was walking back from Toontown, along the back path, and they redirected us through the north exit, we walked single file along the dock, and exited through the southern exit. It was really cool, and I would have never thought of doing something like that. Obviously those people have dealt with problems like that before.

    I asked last year when we arrived to SBL as the line was closing (1hr before the parade time) why it was closed and the explanation was that they close it so people don't try and stand in that area to view the parade thus hold up the line to take premium viewing of the parade.
