However, I have worked for one of the large firms that runs prisons, hospitals and the like. Sometimes outside contractors can do a better job when they are willing to invest in R&D, or can apply new rules that government are not allowed to do (e.g. here in the UK, until recently, it was almost impossible to fire a poor performing worker unless they broke the law, and the Unions meant that people were paid the same amount for a role irregardless of whether they were good or bad at their job, by outsourcing, it is easier to get rid of poor performers and give raises and bonuses to high performing staff). But I do shake my head at the GOP who think health and education are not a right!!!
