They could literally put the current Star Tours film into the projection system in th vehicle and load the movement profile and voila - Star Tours! Oh no.. oh no... horrible realization..

It really wasn't that great of an attraction to begin with - and while I like the "Fantastic Voyage"-type theme, I think something totally new would be better for EPCOT. (Or maybe a ride-through like Adventures through Innerspace would be more interesting at this point - EPCOT is sadly short on those types of rides in Future World these days.)

I miss the WoL pavilion, but wouldn't ride Body Wars again if it returned.

To the essence of what I think is your point, though, something substantive should go in that space. Unfortunately, I think it comes down to it being a valuable convention-center type location, and Disney figures the cost of running it year-round as attraction space isn't worth it given attendance at the park (as a whole; this is somewhat a question somewhat a statement). Although attendance numbers continue to go up, it seems that Disney doesn't really care about increasing capacity at EPCOT. Only TT and Soarin' ever have extremely long lines, so maybe they figure that there is no point in adding more capacity in the form of attractions that won't be big draws. However, that assumes that whatever is put into the pavilion wouldn't be a big draw. Do it right and there's no reason that it couldn't pack them in like Soarin' (after all, it's a non-thrill ride that has huge lines). Like I said, I know I'd love to see it receive attention.
