I wouldn't think it would be a problem since they are right across the street from each other.

The first few times, they just took it without us having to go along but now the policy seems to have changed and the last few times, one of us had to go along and get the new luggage tags when it was checked in at the bell desk of the 2nd hotel.

I will tell you that it gets expensive(probably why they changed the policy-for the tips!!) You end up tipping the original bellman that brings your luggage up to the first room. Then, you tip the bellman that picks it up checking out of the first room and then the next bellman that takes it over to the new hotel and then again, another bellman who brings it up to your room! If you have a lot of luggage like me and tip a minimum of $2 a bag, I can tell you we could have had a nice dinner instead-lol!

So... the last few times we did this: Loaded up the luggage in the car early in the am and DH DROVE it over to the 2nd hotel and parked while I walked over with the kids and checked in EARLY! Then head to the parks and around 3 start calling to see if room is ready. Any cast member at a store or even the little shopping booths has a phone and will call for you to see if the room is ready!

I ALWAYS go to get the room while the kids stay at the park with DH. This is to make sure it is what I reserved and then later, DH goes and gets the luggage from the parked car and brings it up himself. With the rolling luggage, it is no big deal for him and it saves us a ton of money in tips.

More importantly, it assures us of the best room by checking in early. I guess if you have no special requests or don't care what room you get, then skip all of this but once we checked in early and were told we had the dtd view at DLH but went to the park until 11 and when we came back to get the key, lo and behold, we had a pool view and I was NOT happy. If someone checks in after you but complains about their room, I guess they can switch you since you don't actually have the key yet. I just encourage you to check into the 2nd hotel as early as you can and then don't mess around when 3:00 comes and go get the keys!

The only real downside to switching hotels is that you don't have a place to return and rest between checking out of the first one and getting your room at the second one.

None of the hotels have "day rooms" but they all have bathrooms by the pool if you want to change into your suits and swim. Just know that your room MAY NOT be ready at 3 so plan accordingly and don't get caught stuck in your swimwear waiting to change for dinner and the room is delayed until 5 or later if it is busy and GC is famous for this if that is your second hotel. FWIW, it is always better to switch UP to the nicer hotel.

I like switching! I think it is fun as long as you keep the packing and unpacking under control so it does not take up your precious park time.
