Goofyernmost, after the pretty much total lack of air circulation with the windows that just popped out a bit at the bottom, they tried changing them out to half windows, with the top completely open. But there's no way to close them if it rains, etc. In the photos of Monorail Orange, I noticed the windows are the bottom-pop out style.
Originally Posted By Hans Reinhardt "Being ignorant about these things can someone briefly explain what your talking about. I am completely lost here." The old Monorails had windows that opened wide allowing air to circulate throughout the cabin on warm days. Because of new California regulations the new cars were designed so that the windows basically only crack open a bit, which doesn't allow enough air in when the weather is hot. Apparently, because DL's Monorail system was custom built and do not run on a standard beam way, there is no way to engineer the trains to carry air conditioning units because of weight concerns.

Perhaps have it pass through TL (the way WDW's passes through EPCOT) without stopping, partly for the history, and partly for the kinetics it gives TL. I can't see them doing that before the 3rd gate opens, though - if then.

Also, would screens be that heavy to cause stress to the vehicles or track? I mean come on, there has to be some kind of lightweight windwo "technology" to create open air windows that would allow for the safety concerns, but allow for proper circulation...this is 2009, the Disneyland monorail is now 50 years old, the kinks should be worked out by now!!!
