Sarah Palin will appear on ''Saturday Night Live'' -- to have some fun with Tina Fey. As the comedian's impressions of the GOP vice presidential candidate draw laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, a top honcho from the John McCain campaign tells me there's a debate going on about how to respond. Some key McCain staffers are content with Palin joking about the "SNL" routines on the campaign trail -- as when she scribbled "I'm not Tina Fey" on a supporter's cell phone and said she'd dressed as Fey on Halloween. But others -- including the governor herself -- think a return punch on the NBC airwaves is what's needed. I'm hearing some sort of Palin tweak of Fey's American Express commercials is in the works. While next weekend's ''Saturday Night Live'' will be a rerun, it is possible Palin could appear Thursday on the first of NBC's ''Weekend Update'' specials in prime time.<<

I'm glad that they're spending time on this very crucial issue. The economy can wait. It's more important that they focus all their energy on getting Palin a guest shot on SNL. Holy moly. You'd think they would be worried about the fact that in non-scripted interviews, Palin sounds like keys in a dryer, talking points tumbling this way and that, making little sense and providing the fodder that makes the Tina Fey version of Palin ring true. But there I go again, thinkin' about the actual lack of readiness instead of talkin' about how funny she should be in response.

I'm guessing she doesn't think much of Palin, and may not want to give her the opportunity to neutralize her impression. Also, I could be wrong, but I don't think SNL normally allows candidates on the show this close to the election. Obama and McCain have both appeared, for instance, but if only one of them appeared between now and November, that would seem a bit biased, no?

Ultimately, I think if Palin appeared on SNL, it would help the McCain camp slightly, but not nearly enough to stem the tide. At this point, they need a huge October surprise. Ayers, Rezko, and Wright ain't gonna cut it. I'm talking, Obama had an affair (with a white woman, no less!) kinda stuff. Video of Obama smoking weed last year and confessing to being a member of Al Qaeda. That might do it.

Every time you turn on a T.V. show or watch an entertainment news show, or watch a movie, we have to listen to actors, comedians, talk show hosts, musicians make fun of us, people we respect or our values. Sometimes i am jealous of just how easy it is to fit in the pop-culture society if you are a Democrat. constant affirmation and pats on the back. Oh well, you get used to it and you just try and seperate characters and music from the performers. i know many conservatives who can't and have a hard time watching movies with actors that ridicule them constantly, and musicians like Linda Ronstadt who actually said something one time like," I hope there arent any republicans in the crowd". It can be very frustrating. one point though, I realy don't understand why liberals have so many voices in the media and the pop-culture at large, yet if one person voices a conservative point of view, he or she is absolutely HATED and DESPISED by liberals. Is it just being spoiled or is there realy that little tollerance. I seriously don't understand that.

But the GOP does it on purpose. They know their base are superstitious and uneducated. Therefore they nominate Palin to play to the base. They have really smart folks in the shadows, but the face they show is less than intellectual. Since thats the way they play the game, we are going to call them on it.
