Originally Posted By Kar2oonMan The first episode was a little strange, since some of the artists are a little strange. For me, the show hit its stride by the third episode, with the book cover project. But that's probably because I am more partial to commercial art -- it's far less subjective in that the art has a particular task to achieve (sell a product or help define a brand). Fine art becomes primarily a matter of personal taste. That the judges gave the one artist raves for sleeping on his work shows how out there it can get in the world of fine/conceptual art. The book assignment was more fun for the viewer because just about everyone has purchased books and has a sense of what looks like a marketable book cover, and what doesn't. But it also threw the fine artists for a real loop. One artist clearly thumbed her nose at the assignment and did the whole "commercial art is for sellouts" jive.

To me, that's just an annoying schtick he's got going, but the judges seem to love his work, which look mostly like construction rubble to me. I'm ready for him and Naked Girl to leave now, but the judges all seem to love their work.

Last night's episode was Eric's last stand, it was pretty clear he'd be going home. I still think the challenges are too wide open and unspecific. On the blog, one judge said he was disappointed that both teams went with the first dominant idea, rather than taking more time to explore other possibilities. I think it's a good point, yet it wasn't addressed in the show.
