However, if you consider the cost that you'll likely pay for a counter service meal elsewhere in the park, the picnics are actually quite reasonably priced, and give you a lot more flexibility to your day. It ends up being about $5 more than you'd pay for another meal, and to me it's worth having the flexibility first thing in the morning to go somewhere else in the park (or even sleep in!).

Originally the meals were offered at Ariel's Grotto and the Wine Country Trattoria; now it's the Trattoria and the Cathay Circle. The Trattoria has prix fixe deals (either lunch or dinner), and at the Cathay Circle the price will vary - you have to order an entree, and either an appetizer or a dessert. See details at

They also have info on the picnics. The picnic just gets you a regular fastpass, not the best section. The advantage of the picnics was that in the early days of the show, regular fastpasses were gone early in the day, and a pre-ordered picnic gave you a guaranteed admission to the viewing area without you having to get your fastpass first thing in the morning. Others who live in the area will know much better than I, but I don't think all the regular fastpasses disappear super-early any more, so the advantage of the picnic may not be what it used to be.

Again, I am talking about non-holiday weeks. Depending on when you are going, they might disappear quickly. But with the opening of Cars Land, the big morning rush has shifted to getting FPs for Racers and then running to Cars Land. World of Color still fills up every show, but it is much more sane now in terms of urgency.
