Walt Disney World became Walt Disney World Resort and Magic Kingdom was named when Epcot came around in the 80's. There's a generation of guests who think the Magic Kingdom is Disney World because thats what it was originally called way back when. You also have guests who haven't been to Disney World ever, but have been to Disneyland. They think its the same thing in Orlando as it is in California.

It's easy to understand how they could be confused on the issue. However it is frustrating to fans to keep hearing people get it wrong. I have a friend who still thinks he has never been to WDW. Like he said, they were only in Orlando for 1 day, so they chose to go to Epcot instead. I gave up on trying to explain the structure of WDW to him.
