Walt himself actually pushed for them to be integrated somehow into the park. It did not help that the unknown artist built Snow White at the same size as the dwarfs, so they had to be creative with forced perspective. So it was more that "they dealt with it" than they intentionally created a grotto. Not sure they'd repeat the event.

Also, the Cinderella statue has been in the courtyard since '71 (which was also replicated in Tokyo and I think Paris as well).
