They may *seem* as good to some people, and if you or anyone else is satisfied with the quality they get from DVDs, fantastic. But no amount of upscaling from a top-notch DVD player can match the higher resolution and the higher bitrate blu-ray offers. This is simply a matter of data: dual-layer DVDs top out at around 9GB, blu-rays at 50GB.

The shelf life of your typical VHS is just about expired. And if you have audio cassettes of anything important, there's a fairly good chance you're already too late.
