Worse yet, some parents would encourage their kids to go out there while they watched. Well yesterday I watched this same herd mentality at work at the Living Seas. People were climbing up on the rocks at the Nemo fish display, and even going as far as to step over the footlights to lean on the fish so they could "get a picture of me standing next to the fish." I watched as two little kids actually stood on top of the squid, balancing so they could get their picture. I asked them to "please get down -- it's for your safety." One of them actually came back with "Hey -- it's okay -- I'm doing this so I can get a better picture" as mom stood nearby and said nothing. Maybe she reported me to Guest Relations.

Sadly I see a bit of that already happening at TDR as well..but at leats there, when a CM sees a person "in violation" of a safety rule or concern, they are told to stop. Here? Nope. If it makes you feel better SS... I have the same problem at work since there are so many "yahoos" as you put it, that take their safety for granted and do not care to even give me a second of their time except when they need a drink.

If WDW is going to chronically understaff this area, and if this guest behavior is a recurrent event, at least WDW should give the LS/CR Cast Member a radio so that (s)he could get ahold of a supervisor or security person when (s)he witnesses this yahoo behavior.

As popular as the Seas is now, we spend all our time at greater trying to stop stollers and food. Landscaping even tried to help keeping peopel out, they started adding cactus and other Pointy sharp plants. That didnt do anythign to stop them. One time I had school group there, with the teacher takign the kids picture, when i asked them to Get down the TEACHER, told me Rules were made to be broken. I then asked her what school she taught at, so i could let the parents know what Kind of example their teacher were. They have Since taken many of the pants out of the planter and repalced it with Snad and crushed shells, sicne they were replacving it 2 or 3 times a week.

WDW is chronically understaffed ALL OVER! You can see the lack of CMs at rides, custodial, turnstyles, parade crowd control and food (to name a few park posititons) However... count how many people they have working for photolab, bugging guests everywhere for photo ops... (but I believe they are not even bonafide CMs but working for Kodak, yet another difunt co.) Now a days it's very rare to see CMs dispatching safety advise and rules to guests in violation of park codes. For that, yoou have to go to TDR, where the japanese Cms waste no time telling someone to refrain from ...whatever. >>It's Disney's job -- and its CMs -- to maintain order and rules. But heck... let's keep the lawsuits coming for everytime a guest misbehaves and get hurt when CMs didn't prevent an accident for being short staffed/uncaring/unattentive... what have you.

It would just drive me crazy to have to be in your spot, to have to watch people do something as disrespectful as this, and not get backed up better on it. There needs to be another CM there to help control. And I don't care if people sit or stand on the row of rocks in front of the exhibit. Enjoy. It's when they then climb further INTO the exhibit so they can stand directly next to the fish that's wrong. Next time I'm on Small World I think I'll climb out of a boat so I can get a picture of me standing next to the hula dolls. Hey -- "Rules were meant to be broken!" >> They have since taken many of the plants out of the planter and replaced it with Snad and crushed shells << How about trying barbed wire? Seriously, there are footlights in there that have to be stepped over to get to the fish. I find it truly surprising that they're not worried about people injuring themselves on the footlights. (let alone damaging them) Probably they'll solve that one by simply removing the lights.

Maybe posting it will help open people's eyes. Or give them ideas.

And maybe that's the real problem. It's not so much that they're arbitrarily trimming staff. There's just not enough staff to be had. The photo group is manning less than 50% of the locations that we should be. We get complaints from people who "can't find a photographer!"
