It certainly happens the same way with Presidential campaigns. Whoever gets better ads and runs their campaign of false hopes and accusations better will be the one to win. At the end of the day, both candidates are usually quite similar, but whoever had the better commercials or billboards is the one that goes into the list in the back of the history book. The other one just gets a breif mention in one of thousands of paragraphs.

This is why basic rights are not SUPPOSED to be up for grabs on the ballot, subject to the "tyranny of the majority," as Madison put it. Of course, it does happen. Periodically, for instance, some group will put an anti-flag-burning amendment on some state's ballot. If they pass, the state court will typically say "um, nice try, but no. That's protected by the first amendment." Shouldn't even have been on the ballot in the first place. I'm hoping CA's Supreme Court says the same thing if this hateful bill passes. Better yet, I'm hoping it doesn't pass at all - then the direction the wind is blowing should be clear to anybody.

I am seeing them here at work, but I believe that's because my employer is based in the Bay Area, so my IP shows me as being in the Bay Area. I'm also seeing them on other websites. One style of the ad shows pics of Biden/Palin and Obama/McCain, saying that the agree with each other regarding prop 8 (they do not say endorse).
