Melania's RNC speech borrowed key passages from one given by Michelle Obama back in 2008 at the DNC. It's a shame, because Melania was wearing a lovely gown by that hot new fashion designer, Xerox.
Gee, now what sort of rotten son-of-a-guns in the Trump campaign would've embarrassed poor Melania in front of the entire country like that? In other news, here's a blind item for you: Which poor little rich kids finally got back at their wicked stepmother?
More info about the speechwriting process, accompanied by a side order of headdesking from professional speechwriters: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/20/us/politics/melania-trump-convention-speech.html BTW, did anyone notice the other piece of plagiarism in the speech? This is not a joke. The following was actually in it: "Donald has a deep and unbounding determination and a never-give-up attitude. I have seen him fight for years to get a project done – or even started – and he does not give up! If you want someone to fight for you and your country, I can assure you, he is the 'guy'. He will never, ever, give up. And, most importantly, he will never, ever, let you down. " Yep. We got Rick-rolled.
What a circus. Latenight comedians are not going to have to write any material for the next 3 months. It is being provided for free!!
Okay. Who believes that this woman McIver, who previously had done no work for the campaign in over a year of campaigning, had as her first assignment the big hugely important Melania rollout speech? Note that as an employee of the Trump Organization, it would actually have been illegal for her to do this. That's assuming she actually did. As opposed to being someone who agreed to fall on her sword knowing she wouldn't get fired -- and possibly other restitution? And wouldn't SOMEONE in the campaign have known who helped MT with her speech? And it took them two days to come up with a name? Really?
Actually I do. She co-wrote several of Trump's books. And it isn't as if the campaign has exactly been forthcoming on the topic of the speechwriting. Plus, throwing out a professionally written speech by two top speechwriters in favor of an internal half-a$$ by the Trump team seems oh so Trumpish. Besides, since McIver is a Trump Organization employee (writing her confession on a Trump Organization letterhead), they're now on the hook for violating campaign finance law. Your next President, ladies and gentlemens.
The incompetence, both the speech itself and the way, the aftermath was handled, is very Trump for sure. It just seems awfully convenient that someone so low in the campaign (actually not on the campaign staff at all) should be the one to take the fall for it. And then not actually even take a fall.
But I have to say that I love love love the fact that all that anyone outside the convention hall was talking about for the past two days was this plagiarism.
Which is astonishing. It was a 3-hour news story, but by harping on it, they campaign stretched it out to three days. They really are idjits. Putin would play that knucklehead like a fiddle. I bet they spend the next four months arguing about whether Cruz went off his script or not. (He didn't.) Starting with Trump, who will make it the primary topic of his acceptance speech.
There are soooooooo many reasons not to want Drumpf in the White House. But this right here is the main one. Our nation would be steamrolled by less powerful countries if that idiot was POTUS. And given his history of overreactionary behavior, giving him access to the nuclear codes would be an effn disaster!
