They do have a point - Mythica proved that it was possible to use the scale of the lagoon properly but the operating costs are prohibitively high for their current thinking.

I guess that's the danger of having multiple big-budget shows in the same venue: one of them is bound to get cut eventually
Originally Posted By leemac <<How do the operating costs of Mythica compare to Fantasmic!? >> F!'s op budget is many times smaller than Mythica. Mythica's performing cast is gigantic - largest ever used in any Disney theme park. The technical crew is also larger although by a smaller measure. It is a very expensive show to run.

There's also a "bird's eye" view of the show that is best seen from above while on the Fortress (you can also see it from the Ponte Vecchio bridge, the best viewing spots have terrible sound). When viewing the show from any of those three vantage points, you get the sense that the entire show was designed with just that view in mind, and each presents a very different view to the show. They definitely took full advantage of the venue.

Plus they had the up-front cost to switch the show over. If they really want to cut back on show expenses, may I suggest they dump F! and bring back B!? That would at least partly make up for the loss of Mythica, and would save money too!

OLC are in a tough place - need to demonstrate earnngs growth as a public company in a tough economic environment where their target audience is dwindling and earns less in real terms.

Originally Posted By FerretAfros >>It's so huge you can't really even see it in one showing, unlike a parade.<< Wow, that description sounds pretty crazy. I knew there were land-based performers, but I never even thought about how the various locations would give you a different feeling based on what was going on behind you Realisitically, I'll probably only have one chance (maaaaaaybe 2) to watch the show: where would you guys recommend watching from? Most of the photos I've seen are from the amphitheater next to Ponte Vecchio, so that was likely going to be my default. And how early would I need to get there to get a decent view?
Originally Posted By SuperDry I think you got it - the amphitheater is the best. As far as time, it depends on how crowded it is that day, how close you want to be, and if you want to stand or sit. In general, I'd recommend arriving 30 minutes before on a light attendance day, or 60 minutes on a busy summer day. Seeing that that trip will be your only opportunity to see Mythica, you might want to be on the safe side and get there earlier than you otherwise would - everything else will be there next time (unless they continue on their TDS dismantlement project which they seem to have started). If you get to see it a second time, then go for the macro view from the Fortress. They do make it difficult for those with a limited time to visit the resort, as the regular daytime parade at TDL is performed only once per day and always seems to run at the same time or within 30 minutes of Mythica, such that there's no way to see both on the same day. The same goes for Dreamlights and F!.

Sounds familiar, and proves once again that dazzling growth at any given themed resort can't go on forever.

Lots of floats that look like ancient creatures and the typical TDS style overblown opera costumes on the rubberheads. Meh.
