JEANNETTE, Pa. - Meow. A district judge has been asked to decide whether that word is a harmless taunt or grounds for misdemeanor harassment. Jeannette police charged a 14-year-old boy for "meowing" whenever he sees his neighbor, 78-year-old Alexandria Carasia.

The boy's family and Carasia do not get along. The boy's mother said the family got rid of their cat after Carasia complained to police that it used her flower garden as a litter box.

The boy testified Tuesday that he only meowed at the woman twice. Carasia testified, "Every time he sees me, he meows."

Though the story is amusing, I think the woman IS being harassed, part of a chain of events spurred by the harassing family's own lack of responsibility.

so sounds are now harrassing? I think the old coot needs to just get over it and move on.

The ironic twist is that she doesnt already have a million cats living in her house.

Just another example of the "blame everyone else for my problems" attitude so prevelant(sp?) in america.

Sorry, but if you let your pets roam free, be prepared to deal with neighbours who don't like them.

Maybe the woman is a grumpy cat hater. But she's an OLD LADY!! The kid has no right to harrass her. If the police took her side, I'd *like* to think there was more to it than that. Maybe the cat was one of those unfixed, howls in heat under my bedroom window and digs up my garden as her personal litter box cats. I'd complain too.

    And I love cats!!

Grr...if I was that kid's mom, court would be the least of his worries, lol.

I agree there IS an example of that here--but it's not the "old lady." It would be the boy and his family, who are apparently holding a grudge against their neighbor for having the gall to not stand for their cat continually doing its business on her property.

    LOL!!!

I agree that she is being harrassed. The kid is obviously mad and has no problem showing it to the old lady. As he gets older, will he do more to her? I mean, she's an old lady. They are sometimes more afraid than a younger person would be. (Afraid of different things is probably more accurate.)

I wish there was some video proving that the kid did it all the time.

The kids, from the neighborhood for years, knew she usually had a walker, yet they thought they were funny kicking the soccer ball as close to her as possible, in her moment of weakness.

She was a white republican, the 4 boys were armenian. You tell me who is encroaching on who.

They didn't meow, they sceamed at her she was a jaywalker, for only being able to hobble across the road. That happened one side of a block down from Fred62's. A week ago wednesday as a matter of fact.

I walked by closely. It was the only thing that made them shutup.

She is using the only method she is probably comfortable by asking for third party assistance.

I say the parents need to step up RIGHT NOW and tell their kid that sometimes people don't get along, but there is no reason to fan the flames. Be the bigger person and drop it. If he doesn't get that lesson as a kid, he is going to be an insufferable adult who will probably call the cops on the next door neighbour's cat. It's a never ending cycle.

What difference does race make? They are bullies, and should be punished. I would have probably approached the parents if I knew them (presumably if they had been in the neighbourhood for years), or asked the lady if she wanted me to call the police on these hoods.

I was thinking the same thing. That gave me clout to the story what so ever. But some people have to make everything about race. This is an age issue and not a race issue.
