The new Disney family comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day premieres this Friday, October 10th, in theaters, but today is the official release of the six-song EP, featuring all new music from the film. While it has been a while, let’s go track by track and review this bad boy, shall we?

  1. Hurricane by The Vamps- The stuff I’ve heard from The Vamps hasn’t really sparked my interest, but this song is a HUGE step in the right direction. It is very much a mix to my favorite 2004 Jesse McCartney tunes, current Hilary Duff singles, and a hint of Allstar Weekend (Remember them? Yeah, I don’t really either). Its lyrics were very much a peppy Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper,” which is wonderful, as that song had a kick butt message. Great song. A
  2. Best Worst Day Ever by Kerris Dorsey ft. Justine Dorsey- Now, I absolutely adore Kerris’ voice, and I have ever since Moneyball. However, this song does not suit her gorgeous voice. Her voice is such a specific sound, that only certain songs work, and this doesn’t. Also, it is just super boring. C+
  3. We Are the Ones (Own the World) by Charles William- Now I’m ticked. This song doesn’t have the right qualities for his voice either. If they switched songs, they both would’ve received higher grades. The benefit of this song, however, is that it is good. It has that tune sounds like the royalty free music featured in most medical ads, and I mean that in the best way. It has such a cheeriness about it that’s great, but I’d rather hear Kerris sing it. B
  4. Surf Surf Don’t Drown by The Narwhals- This is the best band name of all-time, first off. Secondly, this is good! It is a great, uplifting tune that doesn’t have that same mope-y and inspirational vibe most of those types of songs give off. It is very reminiscent of the song featured here and here (#RIPFoxFamily), and I love those, so that’s why I love this. A-
  5. Perfect World by IDK & The Whateves- With the band title, I didn’t expect much, but this is one fantastic tune. Again, very much sounds like a commercial song, but I love this. So happy and joyous and just fun. Very 2014 and perfect for the film. A+
  6. Suite by Christophe Beck- There isn’t much to say other than Mr. Beck does no wrong in my book. One of my absolute favorites from him. A
