fluffy-kitty-papillonA key to success for childrens books is to center them around animals. Some of the most iconic childrens books follow this trend, memorable classics like The Pokey Little PuppyRainbow Fish and A Pocket For Corduroy all fit into this category. So does one of Disney Press' newest books, The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon.

Papillon is a big kitty, but the book makes it very clear that he's not fat, he's just fluffy. He's so fluffy, in fact, that he's light as a feather and at risk of floating away. One day, the curious kitty follows a red bird out the window and goes off on an adventurous journey to find his way back home.

Author and illustrator A. N. Kang makes her childrens book debut with The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon, based on her own pet cat of the same name. Her illustrations are whimsical and my favorite part was when the kittens owner, Miss Tilly, tries to weigh her cat down with junk food and funny costumes.

There's something about The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon that draws you in and makes you want your own fluffy kitty. That's saying quite a lot, as I am very allergic to cats and would possibly take a lifetime of sneezes in order to have my own fluffy floaty kitty. If Kang can make me feel this way, I'm sure you will, too.
