Kevin Mayer, Disney's Chief Strategy Officer, appeared at the Code Media conference and fittingly talked about the strategy of Disney. Here is some of what he shared:
Hulu is still losing money, but each of the owners of Hulu gets money from the streaming service for licensing their content.
Disney is not trying to kill Netflix, but they feel they can serve their customers better by going direct to them.
When asked if he would want the vacant job as the head of ESPN, he replied, "I'm going to do what Bob has me doing, happily."
As has been reported everywhere, Disney is looking to have a three-pronged streaming strategy with Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars content going on their branded service, sports content on ESPN Plus, and general audience content (ABC, Freeform, FX) on Hulu.
