And they get off their carts and take up 2 bus seats. You have to stand, like you have been all day waiting for these carts to get loaded in front of you all day at the parks. If they are not disabled.... Why should they go first?

My husband is disabled and he walks everywhere on his own in the parks, with no special treatment.

    Why is this acceptable?

I found that it was strictly a matter of our kids and their relative ages. From 6-7 onward up to the late teens, WDW was a great place we all enjoyed together and we were willing to put up with all the issues of air travel and WDW transportation. Now that they are all past 22, my wife and I enjoy the occasional once every couple of years trip to Disneyland Resort which has a much more relaxed and localized feeling.

They have, since, brought in wooden benches that don't seat as many guests as the previous seating did.

ORWEN: They still have that same continuous stone seating around the bronze statue of Walt and Mickey, to give you an idea of what the previous seating used to be like around the wider circle of the hub.

This strange photo is the best visualization of the area I could find (and it's pre-Partners statue). You can see the white benches on the round inner faces of the planters

When the change happened, I had heard that it was to create better sightlines for the then-new Wishes fireworks show, but the timing makes a little more sense with Cinderellabration. I remember the west half of the hub being behind walls on my spring break 2005 trip, which would have been right around the time they were preparing for the new show (which was included in the ad campaign for DL's 50th birthday)

No, I'm not dismissing complaints like not enough buses or the problems inherent in Fast Pass, but were any of these things surprises to people?

And first experience with summer heat and humidity in Florida! First couple of trips it was ok but after that next couple of trips were pretty tough with lots of afternoon T-storms and travel problems. Last few trips were easier as kids got older and we could go during springtime as opposed to summer.
