That is one disturbing film (made to support Amnesty International) but much of the violence is implied and not seen, and it is tremendously effective.

I still feel that the disturbing scenes in Pulp advanced the story just as Reagan's 360 head turn and self inserted Jesus cross did in The Exhorcist. And I'll bet that I was affected more than others; but just because I wish I would not have seen scenes like what is found in Pulp and Exhorcist doesn't mean that they have no merit. What I'm trying to say is that I still recognize the brilliance of Pulp even though some content was shocking. But your comment has made me rethink about how far should a movie go when depicting sex, violence or gross outs(like 3 scenes in Jackass 2).

It's much easier to identify what was "great" or what was "terrible", and find some consensus. But as for "overrated"...tough to get together on this stuff. Can we all agree on Titanic at least?

Movie special effects have progressed faster in the past couple of years and the movie has lost it's original appeal. I enjoy rewatching it every now and then, though the story is getting kinda old. I really have never liked ET. Especially now with those men carrying those threatening walkie talkies. They scare me too much.

Pirates Dead Man's Chest-- too much audience pandering, occasional asinine scenes, unnecessary gross outs for a family film like the people in cages being pecked by ravens and the human body part necklace Jack wore(stepping on more toes so sorry again).

I'm not sure if it won or was nominated for any others though... "Chicago" as #2?? But it's songs are so great, that should save it alone. Very interesting story, too. If some listmakers thinks "Fantasia" is overrated, then that's just sad IMO. I do think that having a love or appreciation for either classical music or animation enhances your enjoyment of it, but simply reading up on just how groundbreaking the work on it was should be enough to show these people just how wonderful it is.

Its not really a list/countdown of the most overrated movies of all time, but just 20 writers/staff members of Premiere picking the movies they think are the most overrated and writing about them. I did like the rebuttal aspect of the article though, reminds me of debate class.

I just couldn't take a film with such cardboard characters (especially that one) seriously as a great movie, no matter how good the effects.

Then I saw a fascinating documentary on the Titanic which of course only discussed the perils of the historical people who were actually on the ship---and then I came to Tom Sawyer's light. I was annoyed that Cameron had to make up a freakin' love story to "draw in" the average viewer today. *rolls eyes in 2007 (as opposed to 1912)*
