what new times period is it blacked out for -- I love my DDE ( I refuse to use the other goofy azz name) -

<<I completely disagree, based on my trip last week and trips in the past. Very rarely, if ever, did I see fries being thrown away. If the burger came with fries, the fries were eaten. I'm not saying I sat in the food court or food service locations for hours on end, but when I did eat my 3 squares a day, I didn't see fries being tossed left and right, nor did I see many salads being eaten. Usually if I saw a salad, it was the one on my plate (and all were very good, especially the chicken caesar salad we had at Sunshine Seasons in the Land - it was delicious!) >>

I think you missed my point, Nikki. I was simply saying that in 1993 you could get a burger AND fries basket at Dixie Landings for $2.39. I am sure it would have been less (likely 75 cents or so) for the burger sans fries.

I don't doubt anything about your above observations.

<<I doubt VERY much that a 99 cent Double Stack at Wendy's or a $1.29 double Cheeseburger at McD's has less beef than a Disney food court one. Probably the same ... maybe less at Disney.>>

    <<This is conjecture - you're guessing.>>

Sure ... call it a spirited hypothesis based on eating many burgers in my life.

<<I don't know about your experience, obviously, but about 2-3 years ago I noticed a major drop in the number of mugs (new and reused) at Disney resorts. I believe that was when they went to $11.99 or $12.99 each (some of us bought them when they were less than $5) ... and also post DDP starting.

I didn't stay on property when I was there the week before you and, for the first time in forever I didn't bring any mugs either as I wasn't planning on dining at resort quick serve (I actually wound up at Poly where I never had a mug from anyway for my one quick serve resort meal) ... but very few folks there had mugs.>>

<<Mugs were still as popular as ever last week. I probably saw a maximum of 10 people not using refillable mugs during our 8 days at Riverside, and we ate at least one meal in the food court per day (and stopped in frequently to fill our mugs due to my Coke Zero habit and my mom's coffee habit).>>

Again, don't doubt what you saw at all ... but that is very different from what I saw at both the BC and Poly the week before you ... and what I have seen overall at all kinds of resorts (especially WL and DAK Lodge) over the past few years.

I have seen a very profound decrease in their purchase in usage ... and it goes back to DDP (you don't need one if you have a drink included with your meals anyway) as well as the last round of price increases.

I can't recall, off-hand ... but when I first got in in 95 when it began -- and for MANY years later -- there were NO blackout periods.

Hell, I used on NYE 1999 at Chefs de France and on a Christmas at LTT ... an Easter at Spoodles ... etc ... those are just off the top of my head.

And in those days the card were a much better deal ... $25 at first ...

I am not sure whether I will get one again since I have cut way back on my Disney Dining ... although I likely will.

Before you decide against reupping your AP, think about using Priceline.com's Name Your Own Price service for your WDW visits.

I spent five days at the DD Hilton in October for $49 ... and another four nights at the Country Inn and Suites right up 535 for $20 ...there's plenty of value in O-Town ... and some of the places in the resort category (like the Hilton DD) can not only compete with Disney deluxe resort, but can outclass them in many areas.

There are some amazing places (J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes, Marriott World Center, Gaylord Palms, Omni Championsgate to name a few) that you can often get on Priceline for less than the DISCOUNTED rates at Disney moderates.

    Just something to consider ...

I agree, and if I have a car when I am there I would stay off property but usually these trips are because my husband is doing business and that means my DD and DM and I are at the mercy of the resort transportation. Getting dropped off and picked up in the middle of a vast parking lot when you have someone in a wheelchair is not a pleasant experience -- especially when the busses are not always equipped for loading people in wheelchairs and they have to send special vans for you. Staying on property has always been as much necessity as it has been desire.

Also, I'm kind of afraid of Priceline although I don't know why.

I love them ... they have saved me thousands and thousands of dollars and I've had largely good to excellent experiences with them ... out of hundreds of stays over the years I may have had problems 4-5 times, and it was always the hotel's 'issues' and always rectified to my satisfaction.

I can't speak highly enough of them.

Add in a toppings bar that includes mushrooms, grilled onions and cheese sauce, and you have a pretty frikkin' great burger at places like Cosmic Ray's.

FWIW I don't recall burgers being very big at places like the Hungry Bear, Village Hausor Tomorrowland Terrace. Now I have to admit, its been a very long time since I have patronized any of these 3.

The last 2 burgers I got at WDW were cold. I never got a cold burger at any McDonalds I've been to.

No condiment bar at all at the Electric Umbrella now. Could this be the future.

I thought Cosmic Ray's had rmoved the cheese sauce.

I use to really like the burgers at WDW, not anymore though.

I don't even think the pixie dust is as strong or as concentrated as the pure stuff they used to make with sugar ... who needs high fructose corn syrup?
