I think that's a bit much. I've never stayed at the Grand Floridian, but the other two hotels are top notch. The Grand Californian is such a wonderful place to stay - far more magical than the Disneyland Hotel in my opinion. In fact, if you're in the area, I think the GCH is a great option to stay at even if you're not going to the parks. I've done this on a couple of occasions myself. To compare it to a Motel 6 is more than a bit over the top, I think.

Now, as for the Mira Costa, what else can be said? I'm posting this message from my guest room at the Mira Costa, so perhaps I'm a bit biased :). In my opinion, it is unquestionably the best Disney hotel anywhere, in any number of ways. As far as taking you "inside the magic," it's much more "in the park" than the GCH is, although the convenience factor is about the same. But, when you compare the park you're inside of (DCA vs DisneySea), there's really no comparison.

Regarding the US Disney hotels, I think the GCH has anything at WDW beat hands down. It's a great place to be even if you don't go to the parks, and it's within walking distance to DL. I've stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and although it was a great hotel, I was disappointed with the fact that you had to take a bus to actually get to the Animal Kingdom.

at this point in time that is absolutely true.........D-MGM started off pretty well and could have been on it's way to being really something -- along the road someone lost the map/plan as to what this was supposed to be -- just a hodgepodge now.....when SWW are there the park picks up -- but one ride on the truly sad backlot tour now -- or thinking about the animation studio having been there - empty buildings that housed shows - whether they were great or now.....and an aging infrstructure....and even RnRC and ToT can't save it....

This park needs some serious TLC and additions/replacements.....the potential is still there

I guess it may be just me, but i thought DCA was much more 'flawed' than Disney-MGM Studios. At DCA, there was Soarin' (which is now at Epcot), GRR (a fun raft ride, but no aa's, nothing 'extra), PP (which had 'fun ' rides...for the county fair, but didn't feel right at a Disney park), Bug's Land (which was terrible), and HPB.

MGM to me still feels like a true Disney park. Not only with the attractions (GMR, the 10times better ToT, RnRC, VOTLM, Muppets, ST, Indy, LMA, Fantasmic, etc.etc.), but just the theming on Sunset/Hollywood Blvds, Streets of America, and the atmosphere it creates puts MGM over DCA for me.

Perhaps its not as good as it used to be (and needs serious help right now), but you don't find the detail of MGM's ToT, the aa-filled GMR, atmosphere rich streets like Hollywood/Sunset Blvd, etc. at DCA..it felt to me almost like a Universal park, meaning it tries hard (and has some good things), but it wasn't all there.

I know all of WDW is aging some and is not perfect -- but the Studios goes beyond general maintenance.

The loss of the animators , and for all intents and purposes the tour

Monster Sound Show / Superstar Television /

The decimation of the backstage tour

Actual filming which used to be fairly frequent to almost non existent - made taking that backstage tram exciting as you may see a 'star' -- not any more

The number and quality of 'street performers' - characters just hanging around those themed streets adding to the atmosphere

The theming you speak of is the movies (hence calling it the studios ) - yet all of the minuses have been those things that make the theme work.

The GMR is one of my all time favorite attractions -- yet could really use some updating and some TLC. And to add insult they stuff a super pin station in the sight lines of what should be a cornerstone of what one wants to see when thinking of Hollywood - yet that monster hat blocks the view of the theatre-- like it is an after thought - which is what the studios theming seems to have become.

I love RCRC -- but next to ToT ? How does RNRN fit the theming of that street ?

It just seems to have lost direction.

That sums it up for me,vbdad55.

I used to love the studios, but not any more. There's not much to see or do there that interests me.
And, knowing people who lost their jobs in FAF, I just can't even walk thru the animation courtyard anymore.

People say DCA doesn't have direction. I've been saying the same thing about the studios for the past 4-5 years.

And that hat ... family website ... so no comment.

I highly doubt that. Just someone who loves WDW and wanted to show it. There is nothing wrong with that.

I'm probably busy in the morning, but I'll be in the park that evening for the inaguration of the *proper* version of Cinderellabration. BTW, you have mail with my contact information. If you didn't get it, Nezumi has my number.

Oh, what's there to be jealous about? The Gyoza Dog I had for lunch? The front-row seat I had for Dreamlights earlier tonight? :)

The level of paranoia on the left coast has reached ALL TIME HIGHS ( turn off the darn caps key) -

The poster who started this in now way tried to start controvery - and they have already explained that...but the rabid DL supporters just get blinded by any statement that can be construed as something in Florida may be better than in California....relax already, it is very tiresome

( and for the record I like DL better than MK and was raised on DL-- but I don't think this unabashed support for a park that 5 years ago you were all bashing and had falling down in disrepair is over the top )

Lucky you... I won't be able to stay for that. Maybe on the 25th when I go to TDS' club night with magicalnezumi.
