I'm not sure exactly what they're going to be doing that's so complicated that it couldn't be done with a static (or limited AA, like puffing cheeks) face

The Dwarfs look cool, but it's just too much projection. It works for "eyes" on a character (Potato head, cars characters, etc) but to have full faces done like that is just not as cool in my opinion.
