And I'm thinking a 2015 trip to San Francisco will be a nice alternative. Lots of new, cool things to do with my family. Disney Museum. Might even get to meet my favorite internet buddy while I'm there. :)

    It's marginally more crowded during midday, but everybody's running (or at the hotel taking showers) first thing in the morning, and getting ready for the next day's races in the evenings.

    Hotel rates do go up for a few days, but they're still generally in line with it being the off-season. The real added expense comes when you start paying for race registrations and again for park tickets. The shorter distances aren't too terribly expensive (particularly the 5K and Kids Races), but the bigger races are kind of out of control
