But even some of the other cruise lines Dave mentioned are changing with the times and adapting a more casual definition of "formal attire". P&O “Black Tie” For men, a dinner jacket or tuxedo are the norm, but a dark lounge or business suit and tie can be worn as an alternative. Princess “Formal” Tuxedo, dark suit or dinner jacket and slacks for men Cunnard Formal: Black tie or formal dark suit for gentlemen. Semi-formal: Jacket and tie for gentlemen. Now if a person WANTS to wear a tux... HAVE FUN!! You certainly won't feel out of place. But don't feel that you MUST wear one... certainly not on a Disney Cruise. By the way... I found that you can rent a tux at the Disney Cruise Lines site and have it waiting for you in your stateroom when you board. The cost seemed considerably less than renting one locally and then schlepping it with you for your entire vacation... especially if the cruise is just a portion of it!

It was very convenient and reasonably priced (<a href="http://www.cruiselineformal.com/" target="_blank">http://www.cruiselineformal.com/</a> is the company Disney uses). The fit was just right, but if minor alterations or adjustments would have been needed, they can handle that on board. We also avoided having to pack a suit for him for the voyage, leaving room for my dresses for the formal and semi-formal nights.

I even mentioned in my post that my experience (and Google search) was on the Dream, and most of it's cruises are 3-4 nights to the Bahamas and don't even have a formal night... just a "dress up" night. Even doing the search you suggested, it was not ALL tuxes... quite a few dark suits with tie also. Having discovered how reasonably a tux can be rented on-board that is probably what I would do rather than trying to pack a suit. But I don't think a person would be totally out of place in a good dark suit with a tie.
