DVC sales have slowed dramatically this year along with the national real estate market. It wouldn't be surprising to see the DVC growth slow down a bit. Part of the impetus for the larger than normal admission price increase was based on the slow DVC sales projected ahead. Real estate has been the hidden secret of WDW for the past decade and a half. Between Celebration land sales and DVC sales, WDW never had really show an operating profit. All of those real estate transactions add up to a lot of theme park admissions. The problem with DVC is that people are essentially paying upfront for 50 years of vacations, but Disney books the revenues (and spends them) in a single year. If the pace of sales doesn't keep up year after year, the whole scheme starts to fall apart.

I believe so. I certainly do agree it's very pricey land to just sit there. They could have left the North wing and done a half-assed refurb for a few years.

But grab a construction worker, offer a Dream Lanyard and Pins, and see what you can get out of him ;-)

It is a waste, but WDW waste stuff all the time. That's just how big Corp. operate for what ever reason. I really think they would be worried about SS, and AKL having to compete with a CR DVC. Those things are going to go faster than any of the others to date. Unlike so many other folks here I like the new design. I just wish they had kept it to no more than six stories. I'm just worried about destroing the feel of the Seven Seas Lagoon. I sure don't think anybody is going to be happy with the extra demand it will place on the Monorail.
