I was also thinking of items showing movement on an upper level, and the buildings you mentioned really don't do that. I really don't know why DL moved the Astro Orbitor down... seems like a massive mistake to me. In the end, I think my original conclusion was probably the right one... people prefer what they are used to.

You can say that again! : )

    >>Clearly WDI has the skills and talent to deliver over the top thematic lands based on fantasy. What I'm not so sure they can do though is produce a authentic narrative based on science fact and fiction.<<

Although they're romanticized, I wouldn't say that (most of) the ports at TDS are based in fantasy. They're not as future/science-based as Epcot or TL67, but it shows that they can work with things beyond existing brands and franchises.

Even Port Discovery, which leaves a little to be desired in its current state, shows that they're able to make a strong, cohesive land that focuses on future technology, and have it weather (pun intended) the tests of time fairly well. It could use some touch-ups here and there and a few tech upgrades, but the experiences themselves still stand as instantly recognizable and relatable, 15 years after being built, all without any character tie-ins

    second story above Captain EO:
It use to be a more functional level when the Space Place restaurant used that upper level .. and you sat and watched the action below .. when it was an open amphitheater. Today ... it's downgraded to simply no more than a queue to get inside Space Mountain.

Innovention's second story - Considering what's inside ... does it really count? ;-)

Monorail. It seems so remote ... off in the north quadrant .. so deeply surrounded by a forest that towers above it. The monorail just disappears within it ... and is removed from the "city center" portion of TL.

It almost doesn't qualify as a "second story" element to the land ... except for it's station.

Without the Peoplemover or any form of attraction on those tracks ...

With no access to Starcade's second floor ...

WDI's attempt at a new Space Mountain queue recycling bits and pieces from what was supposed to be used as a restaurant.

The missing Rocket Jets in the center of the land.....

it's about an 80% return to the "single story" format of TL 1955 to 1966.

To WDW's TL's credit ... their 'promenade' buildings (Buzz, Stitch) tower so much higher than DL's ... they continue their original 1975 format, giving a full "second story" element .... and I hope they never make the same mistakes Disney has done with DL's TL.

It's a second story right? Of course it counts.

Same with Buena Vista Street. So can we agree that WDI does everything well except "the future"?

It seems like they have trouble every time they try to make some sort of movie studio too. The one in Florida worked at the beginning but is increasingly becoming a hot mess, the California one seems to have a constant identity crisis, and the one in France is just butt ugly (also with a hint of identity crisis)

Homes that look and function radically different from today and automobiles that fly are certainly possible (and the automobiles exist in small numbers), but the demand just isn't there so they don't get developed.

Even if things like i-Pads and home security systems that allow you to lock your doors, turn off the lights, adjust your thermostat, etc. from anywhere in the country and the capabilities of Disney's Magic Bands had been predicted (and to some extent they were); how would you make a compelling attraction out of it?
