Recruiters hated it whenever I said that in their presence, but not one would ever deny it. Even when we were at peace, it's true.

A friend told me he was considering joining the military in the late '80s. It was, he said, an excellenet opportunity to get free medical training and eventually become an EMT.

When I told him that people could end up shooting at him, he just laughed it off. He did join, did get the medical training, and did end up in combat during Desert Storm.

Then the shooting starts, and then it's not quite the same thing anymore, and these dopes who signed up thinking that it was just a big party with funny clothes gets a big slap of reality in their face.

That's why you get these Cindy Sheehan's, and people like this. People never seem to understand the consequences of their actions and choices.

That Is the kicker, you still choose right? they have not restarted the draft yet, correct?
I do not have any respect for a member of the armed forces who refuses an order. It does not mater if he, or she beleaves that that order is right or wrong.
Maybe that sounds a bit harsh, coming from a Liberal Canadain, but when you choose to join the military, you choose to live under the direction of that flag.
I just do not see the grey in this area.
you are a soldier, an officer, it is a place of great honor and respect , and as such it can be a place of ugliness, and horror.
....you knew the job, when you signed the papers.

Just get over it Beau. You have NO CLUE who the "guest of honor" at a democrat get-together would be. I think you HAVE seen that Democrats aren't exactly standing in line to take up the cause of Cindy Sheehan.
