The show was FANTASTIC. Vicky and "Mama" were both hilarious and had the theater roaring...and it was well over an hour, which was a pleasant surprise. When I got there and saw the lady I know at the box office she waved me over and said with a smile, "What are your plans after the show?", I told her none, and she said, "Come here and see me afterward. She wants to meet you, but she doesn't have time to see everybody." Needless to say that was SO nice to hear, I thanked her, and thoroughly enjoyed the show (and the "Mama's Family" bloopers they show are a riot too). Afterward I found the lady at the door to the "back" area outside the theatre in a hall, we waited for a few minutes for another party, then went backstage...it felt so awesome to be "special" and back there, the perfect cap to my birthday. They took the few of us into a room where we were told by the director "She will be down with you in a minute." So we went in and waited a couple of moments, then her son came in and was surprised to see us there. She had already left. Garrett said no one told them there was supposed to be any meet and greet, and they had no idea (which doesn't match up with "she wanted to meet me", so I'll have to ask the lady I know if Vicky actually saw my article or my material I had had done on the book so far). Garrett was nice enough to pose for pictures with us, and I told him I found out there was a Bardstown show in the summer so maybe I could do an "IOU" there. He said yeah, they have another one of those they need to do (just sounds like I'll have to make sure there's better communication). Another man introduced himself to me and he turned out to be the stage manager of "Mama's Family". He overheard the lady there tell Vicki's son I'm writing a book on MF, and I said I'd love to have some input from him from what he did on the show. He asked me for a card, which I happened to have, so at least someone connected who travels with her has my name, address, and phone number. So yeah, I'm pretty disappointed, and it sucks there was miscommunication abou the whole thing. Hopefully at the Bardstown show I could meet her for a quick photo (and give her Mary Costa's info--they're old friends). Now I'm off on vacation...next week I have 3 days and 2 nights reserved in one of the most reputedly haunted rooms in Bardstown's Old Talbott Tavern. I plan to do some haunted reading I'm bringing along, interview staff and managers for future writing. It's also the only room with a jacuzzi, MMMMMMMmmmmmm...and I am *SO* ready for a vacation. So, disappointing afterward, but oh well...maybe this summer I'll get my chance.<<

First of all, if you enjoy Vicki or Mama, it is OUTSTANDING. However, it is also PG-13 (at the least), so if you have kids, don't bring 'em. lol Or if you're ultra-easily offended by "naughty humor", don't go. But like my sister was tellin' my dad (who couldn't go) "She got raunchy, but not, like, *disgusting*--but it's a good thing Gran didn't go." (our VERY conservative grandmother, lol) First there was a montage of "Carol Burnett Show" clips, then she came out as Vicki herself and was amazed at the thunderous cheers and applause she received. She tells the story of how she met Carol and got her start, a few funny stories about experiences at the OB-GYN, and she can do a mean Roseanne and Marge Simpson and Ann of "The Weakest Link". She talks about ladies' rooms, meeting her husband who was the new CBS makeup guy, funny stories about her kids and dog, sings "Georgia Without Lights", sings the lyrics to the extended version of the "Mama's Family" theme (!), talks about Mama, and goes to "find Mama"...during which time some *terribly* funny bloopers from "Mama's Family" are shown. Then "Mama" comes out in a side door in the theatre, insults Vicki, gets up to the stage, picks on a few men near up front (one happened to be the county superintendent, lol), answers questions from notecards she says she's asked all the time, uses Vicki's son as a straight man a couple of times and picks on him, goes on tangents about things like sexuality, Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson, Bird Flu, she does a *really* funny Mama rap, a funny version of "One" ("One...singular sensation, every little step she takes---5,6,7,8--One..."), then when Mama leaves Vicki comes back out a moment later in a bathrobe and slippers, asks how Mama was, jokes a bit about her, and sings a standard to wish us goodnight. And I really hope they put bloopers on the "Mama's Family" DVDs cause boy boy boy, I was *rollin'*. A great show, terrifically entertaining...we were talking afterward how our mouths were hurting from smiling and laughing so much. Here are pics of me in my shirt with Garrett, her son who's the same age as me, and the article of mine they had displayed by the entrance (which was a pleasant surprise): http://www.kodakgallery.com/Sl ideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=bcgjgyi.60g37ml6&Uy=o591u7&Ux=0 <<
