As for DCA's ferris wheel, such a ride always will give the park a generic look and quality, so whether the wheel has a sun face or Mickey face slapped on it, it will continue to radiate a "Six Flags Over Anaheim" schlockiness. However, the Mailboomer and Orange Stinger -- although not as tall and therefore visible far and wide -- are much worse.

I don't know, but I have a feeling it will.

Also, note this quote from bluesky disney: "The Sun Wheel is currently scheduled to be completed around this time as well, although construction on it may drag a bit. Mickey's Fun Wheel should be done by the end of 2008 unless the current plans change." The Sun Wheel and Mickey's Fun Wheel are mentioned seperately. Simply changing the name makes sense but it sounds like there is more going on here.

People look to Disney parks for the uniqueness, level of detail, cutting edge attractions and overall quality. If character identification were required for acceptance, they’d have them everywhere. But they don’t. For the most part, character inclusion (especially Mickey) has been done very carefully and subtly. Hidden Mickey’s are so unobtrusive that people relish them when they find one. Outside of those in the attractions and the occasional walk around characters, Disney has been VERY sparing with the use of characters in the parks. And when they have used character elements in the past (Spaceship Earth Mickey Hand, Sorcerer’s hat in Disney/MGM Studio, etc.) But, for Disney to just start putting up huge character images, negating the overall themeing enhancement they have been trying to accomplish, just appears to be counterproductive.

The Times had a map of DCA that mislabeled the location of the Sun Wheel, which may have caused some confusion along the line. The map was apparently provided by Disney, which means someone in Disney’s marketing/PR isn’t all that knowledgeable about DCA.
