Maybe so, but that doesn't diminish the excellence and professionalism of the military one bit. And they DO keep people safe, even if that is only of peripheral concern to tptb.

Absolutely, they do their job VERY well. I would expect nothing less, given that we spend MORE on our military than the rest of the world spends combined on theirs.

It also gives me pause that Bin Laden was able to hide from us for 10 long years and was living (at least towards the end) in a nice house in what appears to be a Pakistani upper middle class neighborhood. It didn't take a lot of money or high tech gear to thwart the US military and intelligence agencies for 10 long years.

Unless of course they knew where he was all along, and decided he was no longer a useful boogeyman and was now more valuable dead.

But "Unless of course they knew where he was all along, and decided he was no longer a useful boogeyman and was now more valuable dead" is too cynical even for me.

You think the power elite wouldn't have preferred McCain to Obama? And if we'd known where bin Laden was in 2008, you don't think an election-season capture/kill of him in 2008 wouldn't have made Bush and McCain look good, and made McCain's election more likely? This particular conspiracy theory falls apart pretty quickly, IMO.

Really have no idea why it does....

We kept getting leads on him (hell we had him in sniper cross hairs 48 hours after 9/11) but when you have a large guerrilla group and countries that will hide you... it becomes easy to hide.

Just because REDWHITEANDBLUEBONER AMERICA NUMBA 1 doesn't mean we can do EVERYTHING

Given that Obama has been a Wall St. lap dog, I doubt they cared either way.

I just find it fishy that here he was, living in a suburban house in Pakistan and they only found him now?

Yes, I have become VERY cynical about our government.

But 10 years? He kept giving us the slip for 10 long years? And he was supposed to be sick all this time as well.

Obama has disappointed in certain aspects, but come on. He got health reform through and although the public option didn't happen (for now), there was a real chance it might have (and seemed likely in 2008, whereas with McCain it never would have even come up), and you KNOW the insurance industry didn't want that. There was also financial industry reform (watered down, but something), and the Consumer Financial Protection Agency - another thing that industry did not want and has been fighting hard to defang. Elect McCain, and none of this is even on the radar screen.

Plus we wouldn't have withdrawn from Iraq even to the extent we did (making military contractors happier)... and I could go on.

<Yes, I have become VERY cynical about our government.>

    No kidding.

How they eventually found him has been detailed. Needle in a haystack. It takes time, patience and perseverance.
