What if, as individuals, we took that same idea about space exporation, scientific research into curing disease, and any number of technological innovations? A society that does not believe that the collective contributions of individuals can amount to achievements that go well beyond the scope of any individual achievement is not bound to accomplish any amount of success. It's also reflective of our society in the United States today. We rarely do anything innovative anymore. I get the feeling that parents have higher aspirations for their children to be the next American Idol moreso than an astronaut, Nobel prize winning chemist, or philosophical genius.

The Southwest is the one exception, but even here temperatures will cool dramatically late in the week. And, the snow is not over! Short range computer models hint at the possibility of a stronger snow storm from Colorado to Wisconsin late in the week into the weekend. This will be the heavy wet variety. The week overall is expected to show the greatest change toward wetter weather in two years - another very big negative for retail sales and for early planting of this years Corn and Bean crop. Weather Trends had forecast this to be the coldest April in 7 years and the wettest in 3 years. It will very likely be the coldest in 10 years and wettest in three.†http://www.agweb.com/get_artic le.aspx?pageid=135336&src=gennews Again I'm being ridiculous

Even if the US as a whole had a colder winter than normal (and I'm not sure that's true - I know January here was quite warm for January), it's still just the US, and it's still just one year. To think that data so puny means anything at all in the larger scheme of things is to not understand how these things work.

Also, if you look at average hi/lo/record temperatures for any city on weather.com, you'll see that the current cold snap is nowhere near record low temperatures for most cities across the country. Where this 113 year low came from is beyond me.

In fact, as I recall, many scientists predicted erratic cold and warm trend as a result of global climate change, but the overall trend is one of swift warming—I don’t know one scientist who disputes the warming trend.
