It doesn't seem like they're hurting anyone and we have no evidence that this couple would be bad parents. They may face a few more problems than a traditional couple but hopefully those can be overcome. I'm much more bothered by the sensationalism surrounding this that anything else. I would think that, because of the controversial nature of the gender question that this couple would want people to respect their privacy and protect the future of their unborn child.

Well, if you say "A very manly woman got pregnant." It isn't gonna draw viewers.

    1. She/he is not a man nor woman. This person chose to be heamaphrodite, which is totally sitting on the fence in my book. So really I find this one quite strange. Having been friends of transgendered folks, I can understand their situations (including a friend of mine born with a penis, but with female genes). This case I find difficult to comprehend.

    2. I am worried about the medical welfare of this baby. Afterall the "host" had so much testostrone to become a "man". Pregnancy requires a huge amount of estrogen. What will this biochemical conflict do for the health and safety of the baby and the "host".

    3. Social impact - oh my, this kid is going to have such a hard time. I am predicting mental health issues later in life sadly (many kids with same sex parents go through this too - there are studies being carried out as we speak to see what that means).

In my books, live and let live, whatever consenting adults want to do etc. But this one seems pretty messed up to me.

I agree this should have been a private thing to protect the child - BUT they were the ones who went on Oprah!! They brought the attention to all of this not anyone else!!

I'd have no problem if this was someone in the middle of sex-reassignment who suddenly decided "wait - I really want kids and my wife can't have them any more, but I still can..." and made the decision only on that basis. It would have just quietly happened, and we'd never have heard about it, or read it in a footnote somewhere.

But now, contacting Oprah and all that it seems like they may have been thinking "Hey, you know... I'm legally a man now... I could be 'the world's first pregnant man.' There's a story in there!" Consciously or unconsciously, it seems like they're looking for their 15 minutes (and maybe someone tempted them with a book deal, or who knows what).

Perhaps I'm reading this wrong, but if they were the ones to contact Oprah, maybe not.

I don't have any idea how she didn't go completely and totally batcrap crazy and just completely throttle her ex-spouse is beyond me.

It's not nearly as cut and dried as you wish it were, RC Collins, and I think that you are looking at this through angry and prejudiced eyes for whatever reason, to put it mildly.
