Of course, you have someone like Newt Gingrich declaring that he is all for "defending" traditional marriage, even though he was unable to live up to his marriage vows, twice. And there are endless examples of people making an absolute mockery of the concept of marriage, yet they enjoy rights that most gay couple can only dream of.

It's bull of course, but I think there's an element of that.

I didn't leave it out to suit my argument. I didn't mention children because they were part and parcel of the whole 'merging of property and wealth' baggage with marriage. Wives and kids were no better than chattel back then, and you know it.

Henry the VIII had more children outside of marriage than he did 'officially' with his wives. But the bastards, in the legal sense, were not recognized as offspring and therefore, not considered eligible to inherit the throne or wealth of the Tudor family. Marriage wasn't necessary in order to create kids, but the marriage was necessary for those kids to inherit their father's property.

Such is not the case today. Doesn't matter if you were born outside wedlock -- if you're a blood relative, you're family. And as such, you're eligible to inherit the assets, unless stipulated otherwise in a will or trust. This is the basis of Ratatouille's plot with Linguini and his famous dad. But that storyline wouldn't have been possible before modern times.

I wonder what horrible things all those straight parents did to make those gay kids.

They also use the argument that being homosexual isn't natural and is only a choice. They forget the hundred or so species that exhibit homosexual behavior. I hate immoral animals, don't you?

Exactly! I don't think that occurs to them when they are making their argument though. Gay people had to come from somewhere, so...logically, straight parents make gay kids, right?

That's the problem, there isn't any logic to it. It's all knee-jerk reaction and emotional. It's difficult to argue with somebody who isn't being rational.

It's this permissive, sinful society of ours that makes kids gay, don'tcha know. They see gay characters on TV and decide to become gay.

It's why my mother is a car.

Funny you should mention that ... I've now been introduced to the cheese, here in Australia, and learned it was developed by creator - Edward Coon.

Yeah! A NAME! Not the racial slur some activists try to draw.

(They've also taken in two beautiful foster kids whom they hope to adopt.) I know plenty of gay couples who want to have kids, and plenty of straight (married) couples who don't, so I really don't see how the "kid" issue comes into marriage.
